Getting your name in front of potential customers can feel like a constant balancing act. You want people to recognise your brand and ideally get in touch when they need your services. The tricky bit is doing all of that without pouring your entire marketing budget into advertising.
That’s where vehicle wrapping can make a lot of sense. No matter if you’ve got one van on the road or a growing fleet, a branded vehicle gives your business a moving piece of marketing that can work wherever you go.
It can be parked outside a customer’s house, travelling between jobs, sitting at the lights, or making its way across the UK. You might not even be thinking about marketing while it’s happening, but your vehicle is still getting noticed.
And unlike many forms of advertising, you only need to pay for the wrap once. After that, your branding can keep working every day your vehicle is out and about.
Not to be confused with screeching the lyrics to Lose Yourself by Eminem at the top of your lungs in the car on your way to the office, vehicle wrapping with a ‘w’ involves applying large sheets of specialist vinyl to the bodywork of a vehicle.
The vinyl can be printed with your branding, colours, contact details, imagery, or other any design elements you fancy, and then it’s (very) carefully fitted to the vehicle. The amount of coverage can vary depending on what you want to achieve and what your budget allows.
A full wrap covers most, if not all, of the visible exterior of the vehicle. It gives you a much bigger canvas for your branding and can create a bold, recognisable look.
A partial wrap, on the other hand, uses vinyl on selected areas, like the sides, rear doors, or bonnet. This can be a useful option if you want to introduce strong branding without covering the whole vehicle.
Then there are also simpler options like individual vinyl graphics, lettering, and logos. These can be a great choice if you’d like your vehicles to look branded and professional while still keeping things relatively simple.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, the key benefit here is visibility. A van wrap can put your business in front of hundreds if not thousands of people during a working day. This is doubly true if your work takes you into busy towns or if you cover a wide service area. But there’s a bit more to the equation than just being seen.
Traditional advertising can involve ongoing costs. You pay for a campaign, the campaign runs, and then it stops. But a wrapped vehicle is a bit different. Once the work’s done, your branding can continue appearing wherever the vehicle goes.
For small businesses that don’t want to shell out on constant campaigns, this is a real blessing. Your business activity becomes part of your marketing. Every journey to a job, delivery, or meeting creates another chance for someone to see your brand. You’re heading that way anyway, so you might as well make the journey earn its keep.
If you’re running a business that serves a specific area, getting that visibility close to home can become a key part of your approach. Just as an example, let’s say a local electrician drives their branded van around the same area on a regular basis. Over time, people begin to spot the branding even if they haven’t needed the service… yet.
Then, when the boiler decides to go ka-put on a freezing Tuesday morning, that familiar name pops into a new customer’s head. That familiarity can be pivotal. People often need to see a business a few times before they remember it, and a vehicle that travels around the same area can help build that recognition naturally.
A branded vehicle can also influence how people perceive your business. Clear, well-designed graphics are a sign that you take yourself and your work seriously. Plus, they can help create a consistent look between your vehicle, website, signage, and other marketing materials.
This is especially useful for SMEs competing against bigger businesses. You might not have a fleet of 50 vehicles or a massive advertising budget, but a well-designed van wrap can still give you a strong presence on the road.
The best vehicle graphics should form part of your wider brand and marketing activity. Your logo, colours, typography, and tone should ideally match what customers see on your website and social media. Contact details should be easy to find. If there’s a particular service you want to promote, that can feature prominently too.
It’s always worth thinking about what someone needs to take away from seeing your vehicle for just a few seconds. They might not have time to read a chunky block of copy while you’re driving past, so the message needs to be clear.
For a lot of businesses, that could simply be the company name, what they do, their website, and a phone number. Sometimes, keeping things simple makes the strongest impression. That’s where a good designer like our lovely lot can be most useful.
A vehicle can have plenty of information on it and still do a rubbish job at communicating anything clearly. Bigger isn’t always better, and adding every service you offer can quickly turn a clean design into something that looks like your entire website has been printed onto the side of a Ford Transit.
The first question you should be asking yourself here is, ‘does my business spend a lot of time travelling between jobs or customers?’. And if you just answered back in your own head with any variation on a ‘yes’, then we’ve got some good news for you.
Trades are probably the most obvious example. Plumbers, electricians, joiners, roofers, landscapers, and heating engineers can all benefit from having a recognisable vehicle travelling around the areas they serve.
However, it can work just as well for the likes of couriers, mobile repair services, cleaners, catering companies, and really any other businesses where vehicles are a visible part of day-to-day operations.

Any successful vehicle wrap starts with the design. Your graphics need to work with the shape and features of the vehicle rather than treating it like your standard flat billboard. You need to think about doors, handles, windows, curves, and joins before anything gets printed.
The design also needs to be readable at a glance. If someone can’t work out who you are or what you do while your vehicle is whizzing past, there’s a good chance they won’t stop to investigate.
Matthew Neve, our Signage & Large Format Print Specialist, said:
“A vehicle gives you a surprisingly large space to work with, but that doesn’t mean you need to fill every inch of it. The best designs tend to have strong branding and enough breathing room for people to take it all in. It needs to look good close up, but it also needs to work when you’re driving past.”
The quality of the vinyl and installation matters too. A good design deserves a good finish, especially when your vehicle is representing your business wherever it goes.
Our team can help develop the design around your existing brand, making sure it works with the vehicle and communicates the right message. We can then take care of the print and fitting, giving you one team to deal with rather than having to coordinate different parts of the process yourself.
Whether you’re looking for a full wrap or partial coverage, we can help you find an approach that suits your business. We also work across other large format print and signage projects, so your vehicle can form part of a wider branded environment. That could mean bringing the same visual identity across your premises, exhibition materials, signage, and other marketing.
A well-designed vehicle wrap gives your business a practical way to put your brand in front of potential customers day after day. And, frankly, if your van is going to spend half its life sitting in traffic, it may as well look good while it’s there. So, let’s have a coffee and a chat.
